Here you go, here's my teaching X-Man. Now I am going to rest my fingers for a bit...
.:Status:.
Codename: Monitor
Real Name: Komodo
Age: 10 (due to his animal origin his estimated human age is somewhere between 25-30)
Height: 8'9"
Weight: 486lbs
Hair Color: None
Eye Color: White
Place of Birth: Indonesia
Date Of Birth: 2001
Relatives: Unknown
Group Afffiliation: Xavier Mansion
X-Factor: Komodo is the result of the X-Genesis experiment conducted by the American Government in 2000-2005. He was the sole surviving specimen, the only animal with an active X-Gene. As such he has evolved into a basic humanoid form, standing upright, possessing opposable thumbs and capable of flawless speech. The X-Gene had several side effects in Komodo that proved minor when compared to the 100% fatality in the other specimen. He only sees in the gamma spectrum, but possess a natural affinity to the dimensions, meaning that when viewing pictures taken with a gamma ray camera he can immerse his mind in a four dimensional evironment of the picture. Ergo, if a picture was taken of a room with four people in it, Komodo could view that picture, immerse his mind in it and watch as if he was in the room. Given a video feed from a gamma ray camera he can survey events as they unfold and even rewind events to examine them closer. Given a broader image, such as an image of a far distant galaxy, he could even delve deeper into the dimensions, although that causes him to temporarily digress into his animalistic state of mind.
Weaknessess: Seeing in gamma rays, if ever so cool, gives Komodo no pleasure out in the Earth atmosphere. The ozone layer blocks almost all gamma rays and to Komodo his environments are clear white sheets with faint phantasmal shapes moving around him. He is in a sense blind on Earth. That which makes his powers even remotely practical are the high level of technology in the Xavier Mansion. Komodo was given a certain honor by the Professor, his own Gamma Ray Transmission Alcove, a room sealed away from the rest of the world where he can view gamma ray images and video feeds from the Xavier II, a satellite orbiting Earth, able to bypass the ozone layer with enough gamma rays to give Komodo a clear image of the ground below, but not enough to be harmful to those viewed. This however means that Komodo is covered in miniscule gamma radiation which must be cleaned off for several hours before he can safely return to the outside world. Even at such low levels it would prove dangerous and even fatal to a human being, however the X-Genesis programme gave Komodo some sort of protection from the lethal energies. He is in no way immune to gamma radiation, he is just far more resilient than the ordinary human and mutant.
Skills: Komodo is quite intelligent, something believed to be another side effect of the X-Genesis experiment. Even though he haven't been able to study science under any normal circumstances, Hank McCoy and Xavier tutored him in any field he had interest of. Komodo is an excellent theorist in physics, chemistry and astronomy, his favorite subjects being dimensional theory and astro-physics. He can read several languages, but can't speak them fluently. He is a teacher of theoretical science and astronomy at the Mansion.
Biography: Project X-Genesis was an experiment that the US Government hoped would bring them new mutants which could be used for government black ops, research, law enforcement and homefront protection. The idea was simple; create an X-Gene in an animal to create a sentient and intelligent mutant which could be used for Government operations. Not only would the animal be lifted up to human level cognition and intelligence, they would also recieve powers like the normal mutant. It was a good effort... in theory.
Before the experiment was uncovered to the public in 2005, 65,000 animals had been given an X-Gene. 50,106 died from the mutations, 13,496 died from complications and side effects from the mutations, 1065 was put down due to major crippling of motor skills or mental capacity, 332 was put down due to super agressive behaviour which resulted in personal or material damage and one survived with minimal crippling effects. That lone survivor was Komodo, aka Specimen 00502 "Monitor". Animal rights activists and politicians alike forced the project to the ground, but non wanted to shoulder the responsibility of its sole functional abomination.
Komodo was created from a Komodo Dragon and was the 502nd mutant created in X-Genesis. He was part of the First Generation, the first batch of 1,000 animals. In the end he was their only success and even then only partially. As the facility was shut down Komodo was to be euthanized. But fortunately for him Charles Xavier had other plans for him. He fought for Komodo's right to live, stating the obvious to the United States' Congress; Komodo wasn't an animal anymore, he was a mutant and as such protected by the Mutant Rights Clause of the Superhuman Legislation. Xavier was given responsibility over Komodo and was given a new home in the Xavier Mansion.
The first year in the Mansion was hard on both Komodo and the X-Men. The poor mutant was utterly insane from the ordeals forced upon him by the X-Genesis and his gamma ray vision left him stumbling through faint shadows in a completely white world. The team started doubting if Komodo should have been euthanized, but Xavier stubbornly kept trying to rehabilitate the humanoid lizard. In the end it was Hank McCoy that found the answer. He stimulated Komodo's mind with scientific tutelage, something that brought out the intelligent and calm side of the mutant. After only a couple of months with regular lessons in physics, chemistry, astronomy and the like he had become a productive meber of the institute.
It was Xavier that brought in Forge and McCoy to create the Gamma Ray Transmission Alcove. Not only would it give Komodo visual stimuli, it would also lead to the realization of his other power. The dimensional affinity suddenly gave Komodo a definite place in the X-Men as a surveillence officer, the X-Men's eyes where they couldn't see. Paired with a Mind Impulse Library of Komodo's own design, he couldgive image as well as additional information in the field, making him the teams prime source of tactical and general intelligence on missions.
Sadly the final battle between Xavier and Magneto left the X-Men without a definite leader and Komodo despise the fractured factions formed around Wolverine and Cyclops. He seldom surface from his Alcove nowadays and when he does he only eats dinner and teach students the marvels of his trade. He can only hope that the Mansion is soon unified once more.
